UMAX 2000U: Supported or Not under OS X?
I spent 20+ minutes on a dial-up connection yesterday downloading the SilverFast SE Photoshop plugin for my UMAX 2000U scanner, only to discover that it would not work (I kept getting "scanner not found" errors, and the SF log file indicated that the 2000U was not supported by this particular plugin). The download page clearly indicated that this plugin was for Mac OS X and it was for a USB scanner. Also, the log file said that the plugin would not work with a USB scanner unless the manufacturer's drivers were installed. If UMAX had OSX drivers for this scanner, I wouldn't need SilverFast. Is this scanner supported under OS X or not?
UMAX Astra 2000 not supported for Mac OS X
Dear m5comp
The SF_Logfile starts with some general hints about trouble-shooting. For some configurations it is indeed necessary to install drivers before the scanning software is installed though often scanning software does this for you (if the drivers were not, however, already installed by the OS itself).
At the time I am posting this the webpage with the download option explicitely warns about that the Astra 2000 is not supported under OS X.
This might or might not have been changed due to your helpful hint.
Please let me apologize for any inconveniences you have experienced Thanks to attentive customers like you we are able to improve our service once again. Thank you.
Sincerely yours

This update is for people who already own SilverFast (download page asks for serial number). Besides, a couple of weeks ago I downloaded a newly-released demo of SilverFast SE that supposedly would work with the UMAX 2000U; as it turned out, it didn't (a message from SilverFast support confirmed that this was a mistake).
The time they are a-changing...
What a difference a couple of weeks make.

Dear Astra 2000u users
it is quite unlikely that on OS X compatible version can be made for this particular scanner, cf.:
