The IT-8 Kodak Ektachrome calibration marquee used to encompass (See SF manual 1/00) only gray scale patches Nos. 1--22, with unmarked No. 0 (white) and No. 23 (black) excluded, as well as all color patches. For some time now, and without warning to old hands, the marquee must
include the previously excluded patches and everything that falls within those four corner markers.
The funny thing is that, in SF AI v6.4.3r6 for Nikon Coolscan LS 30, the wrong (old) marquee generates no error, but, of course, the resulting .icm profile is all wrong.
When was IT-8 marquee changed?

Dear Tomas,
the new marquee is in SilverFast for at least two years now.
It was designed to include the full patch area of the IT8 chart, and gives the flexibility to successfully work on charts not fully aligned horizontally (e.g. rotated).
To guide the users how to align the marquee to the IT8 chart we have
- changed the picture in the IT8 dialog that shows how to draw the marquee,
- added the individual patch frames that signal to the user if all the patches of the IT8 chart are matched correctly,
- and we have added the two small squares (one white and one black) that indicate where to align to the Dmin and Dmax matches of the IT8 chart.
Depending on the marquee position, SilverFast will complain about misalignment, or not. I admit that it might not complain in some cases, although the marquee is not correctly aligned, but I think that the guidance I listed above is quite good.
Best regards
Martin
