I decided to update SF 5.5.2.r10 to r20 in order to resolve the problems with Negafix. As usual with updates I was prepared to meet some problems. However I followed to the letter your instructions on how to update.(Why is it necessary to go through all of these steps. I have other programs which never need such a tedious approach).
The result is that now SF does not find the scanner anymore. The WIN device manager says "Problme: the installer did not find NKNSCN95.dll..."
RESULT: I cannot use the scanner, as I un-installed the Nikon software. SF does not work! I send an e-mail to support on August 12. So far no reply!
What is wrong with SF and Nikon?
I use PS 6.01`, SF as a PS plugin, Win 98Se.

I am not sure if it is the same for windows machines, but I believe SF 5.5 works through the Nikon MAID drivers on a Mac. If you uninstall all of Nikonscan in a Mac, I think the drivers needed go with it and SF has no way to connect with the scanner.

You might re-install Nikonscan and then try using Silverfast. If you don't have the installer CD, you can download it from Nikon's site.

You may be right! But why does Silverfast ask then to UN-Install all Nikon drivers!

I can't tell you that. It might be a Mac vs. Windows kinda thing. I am running SF 6 on my machine, installed along with Nikonscan 3.1.2, in Photoshop 7 and I have no problems as yet.

Good luck

Thank you Peter. When I get home at the end of the week, I'll follow your advise and install the Nikon Software again. I'll let you know how it works.
At least somebody from the user community is responding. I still have no reply from LSI support!

Dear HWG,
first of all you should know that this forum is NOT a hotline. Therefore it is not unusual that our support does not answer instantly to your entry.
From your entries I deduce that you must have followed instruction from LaserSoft (support) of how to uninstall NikonScan (and older SilverFast versions) before installing a current 5.5.2 SilverFast software.

you can find answers to your Nikon problem in our FAQs !!!
:o look into sections like "Scanner not found" or "installation" or "Funktionality releated problems > ...by manufacturer "

Dear Mr. Engelhardt,
For your information, I sent an e-mail request to your support section inorder to resolve my problem 10 days ago. Only after getting no response, I posted the same question in the forum. For your further information, I still got no reply from LSI support!!! After all this is your product and I followed LSI advise. So, I am not to blame.
Weiterhin verbitte ich mir von Ihrer Seite den patzigen Ton den Sie in Ihrer Antwort anschlagen. So geht man nicht mit Kunden um, Sie scheinen da auf einem hohen Ross zu sitzen.
Your Software ist certainly good, but many little nagging problems do arrive.
I do hope that I get an answer from your support to my question.
MFG, HGW

Dear HWG,
I am sorry that you did not receive an answer to your e-mail. Do you remember to which address you did send your request? (we have two hotlines).
It is possible that you e-mail is still in the queue somewhere, because now that a new version is out, there are very many requests comming in.

If you can't wait I advice you to browse through our FAQ sites.

Dear Mr. Engelhardt
Thank you for your reply. I sent the request on August, 12 10:21 to support@silverfast.de Objets: Installation SF5.5.2r20 My e-mail hans-georg.wilden@wanadoo.fr A copy of the SF Logfile was attached to my e-mail. I cannot forward this mail to you, as I am currently on a business trip and working from annother computer. I did not find anything in your FAQ sites.
I need very much to use SF on Friday 23.8. when I come home. I think, I just follow Peter's advise and un-install SF, re-install Nikon 3.1.2 and then re-install SF. What do you think?
Mfg

OK, I am home now and I installed NIKON 3.1.2 prior to installing SF 5.5.2r20. It works now OK (except for the longstanding problem that Photoshop shuts down when changing the dia holder against the filmstrip holder, but never mind, just one of the "little nagging problems")
Thank you for your help

Forgot one thing:
The link you point out, Mr. Engelhardt, nikon-install, is exactly the procedure I following to begin with when installing 2r20. This led to the problem! Not following your procedure and leaving the Nikon drivers alone enabled to install SF2r0.
You may want to revise your procedure.
