Silverfast slow to find LS4000

Postby Panosphere » Fri Jul 11, 2003 9:06 am

I've just upgraded to a LS4000 from my dead LS2000 (both with SilverFast, of course), and find that when running the Photoshop (V6) plugin SF takes about 18sec to find the scanner each time I invoke the plugin. This compares to less than 1sec with the old LS2000, I find this wait time massively frustrating, has anyone else had this problem?

The LS2000 was SCSI, whereas the LS4000 is on the bundled Firewire card, I'm running Win98SE 600MHz PIII, 768Mb RAM, 2 x 80Gb HD, Matrox G550 1024x780 32bit. I also have an Agfa and an Epson flatbed (both Silverfast), connected via SCSI, their find times remain under 1sec.

Right now, I'd be back to using the LS2000 if it wasn't fried.

Do you have any problems with recognition time with NikonScan ?

Go back to Nikonscan after I've used Silverfast... I don't think so.

It turns out that the delay is actually a Win98/Firewire problem, since I'm U/Ging to XP soon I can live with the problem for a little while. Anyway, there is a workaround, if you scan to file the SF window stays open, so no annoying delay. You have to change your workflow a bit, but it's liveable with.

My question was related to helping you track down the problem. i agree with your choice of scanning software.
