I am less than happy with Silverfast software. Since day one it has frozen or crashed my machine. I have just paid $55 for the SFE-5.5.2r09 (NikonM) upgrade and updated my system OS to 9.1.
I have reinstalled the OS software in an attempt to eliminate the problems but to no avail. My Nikon Scan 2.5.1 runs smoothly so it is not a hardware problem. The SF usually ties my Mac up at the prescan stage when the SF-200 is installed.
I really want to use SF - on paper it looks good but considering the headaches it causes I am not inclined to do so. So if anybody else has had similar problems and found a fix then please let me know.

I found that freezes occurred when the system's Virtual Memory was turned on. Turning the VM off practically removed all freezes.
Whether this is a Photoshop problem or a SilverFast problem might only be known to the developers.
Off topic:
I am using Photoshop Elements. Unfortunately, Photoshop Elements is so crippled that it's almost a vegetable. Unless Element improves significantly and soon, Apple should completely ignore Adobe with regard to the average consumer and release the next verson of iPhoto asap. I believe that Adobe has no respect for its customers.
In the meantime, I can't wait until Lasersoft releases SF-App application because I have very little need of Photoshop for my scan work anyway.
regards
Gregory
