SF and ICE: Normal mode or fine mode ?

Postby Remko » Fri May 14, 2004 3:50 pm

I found in the - excellent - manual that ICE is implemented in SF as an on/off button.

In NikonScan I have the option for "Normal" and "Fine".
Which of those two is used when I turn on ICE in SF?
Or is the power in which ICE can be used different from one of the options in NikonScan?

Thanks for answering !

Dear Remko.

SilverFast uses the same ICE technology as NikonScan. To select normal and fine dICE mode, please toggle the ICE-icon on the left side of the preview. Possible modes are:
1. off
2. ICE (normal)
3. ICE2 (fine)

Eric,

What version are you using ? For my Nikon cs4000, 6.2.1r3, the ice button goes from "gray" = OFF to "color" =ON. i do not have the second setting so far as i can find.

Dear all.

I just found out that the second ICE mode was implemented but actually never got released. Sorry for my wrong anouncement.

We didnt see any significant difference in images scanned with normal or fine mode, that?s why we didn?t release that feature.

I have enabled that feature now and I?ll have it tested again. As long as the plugins doesn?t crash (and I?m sure it doesn?t  ), the two ICE modes will be available in version 621t5.

Best regards
Eric.

Eric,

Thanks. i had noticed on a few kodachrome slides that the fine setting gave better results, but that had to be traded off against a little more softening of the image. Sharpening usually brought it back to an acceptable level for me.

Eric,

Thanks for the feedback!

My experience with NikonScans is that the different dICE modes do make a difference.
Do not know if that is the same with SF, but I hope to find out soon.

So for me it is good to learn that both modes will be available !

Dear all.

We have now tested our implementation of the two ICE modes in SilverFast. Tests were positiv. Please expect the availability of both modes in version 621r5.

Best regards
Eric.
