I have already talked to the excellent support people at Lasersoft about this but I want to bring it up here too so that it's not forgotten.
I want to use the Job Manager to scan whole strips of film, but it's not practical. While the user can select a 'Setting' when selecting photos to process via Job Manager, the 'Setting' does not include the original frame dimensions. The original frame dimensions are calculated using information provided by the Nikon scanner, which unfortunately in my case with the Super Coolscan 4000ED is significantly off-centre. This means that every photo to be processed by the Job Manager must be re-framed; either directly via mouse-drag or via the Frame Settings popup menu if the user thought to save a setting before running Job Manager.
The support people told me that 'Settings' cannot save the original frame dimensions. Conversely though, the 'Frame Settings' do save the original frame/s dimensions, so it's a little bizarre.
Could Lasersoft either include the original frame dimensions in the Settings, or add a Frame Setting popup menu to the Job Manager dialog so that the user has the added option of presetting the original frame dimensions.
If anyone is curious, one of the things I'd like to do with Job Manager is scan a strip of film twice; once at a high resolution and once at a low resolution; automatically creating and naming preview and high-res photos for my catalogs (although iPhoto might negate the need for the previews as it continues to improve.)
Comments anyone?
regards
Gregory

Good hint, lets hope it finds the approval of our decision makers.

Dear Gregory,
please take into consideration that SilverFast is "scan-frame orientated" that refers to the scan frame(s) that you draw in the SilverFast preview window.
With devices like Nikon you can feed multiple images at once into the scanner, which is a different approach. SilverFast can save the position of scan frames (and their dimensions) in respect of the preview window. This function of SilverFast does not know that the actual device also holds other images.
answer to last paragraph:
Yes, the SilverFast JobManager almost meets this requirements, however, you must set the frame dimenstion and the resolution once (when you edit the first image of a job queue). When this is done you simply copy these settings (output dimenstions and output resolution) to the other thumbnails in the job queue: with the Edit button active hold Shift key and click the last thumbnail in job queue.
All the thumbnails are highlighted now and below in that JobManager window you'll see the button for "copy" turns active.
Click this and a new dialog appears where you tic the options you want to copy.

That would have been the answer to the problem and was actually suggested by the Lasersoft support people. Unfortunately, the support person and myself quickly discovered that frame dimensions are not included in the list of parameters that can be copied.
Could you possibly change this real quick and add frame dimensions to the list of parameters copied? It would answer 95% of my request.

Gregory
