Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED, 16x Multisampling and 5.5

When scanning slides with my Nikon Super Coolscan 4000ED on 16x Multisamping and Silverfast AI 5.5.0r14, most of the time I get a scanner error: 0. Turn multisampling down to 8x fixes the problem. When I use Nikon Scan on 16x everything is fine. Anyway to fix this problem? Anyone else have the same problem?

I'm running Windows XP Pro with 1.5 gigs of memory and an AMD Athlon 1900+ xp processor.
