I have updated to the latest version of SilverFast 8 for the Nikon Coolscan V ED. I am running OS X Mavericks on the latest MacBook Pro with Retina display. When I launch the software a dialog box comes up that says what is below:
"SilverFast has been updated. There are still files that require an update to be compatible. SilverFast will temporarily disable the outdated modules, Please update your SilverFast software for: Nikon Family."
When I click the "OK" button on that window the application opens but gives me the following message:
"SilverFast was not able to detect any scanner supported by your installed scan module."
I have connected the scanner directly to my MacBook Pro via a known good USB cable. My MacBook Pro does not seem to recognize the scanner. When I open up the Print/Scan area of in System Preferences the Nikon scanner does not appear. When I go into the System Report the Nikon scanner does not appear under USB devices.
The file name for the update that I downloaded is SF-8.0.1r41(Nikon).pkg.

Re: Nikon Coolscan V ED Not Recognized
Dear customer,
This can happen when some files could not be updated.
For example if SilverFast was still running or the files were still locked.
Please do the following:
Remove SilverFast using the uninstall app (not .sh file) in the SilverFast 8 installation folder.
/Applications/SilverFast Application/SilverFast 8/uninstall SilverFast 8.app
Then reinstall the latest update from our website.
(Our "updates" are always full installation files.
kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
