Actually I can?t reproduce the problem, that has been present during the last days- wether in the Plug-in nor in the application I don?t use frequently.
The only thing I can do is to observe exactly the circumstances and you will see, which informations you may take into account..........
During the last days I scanned my work changing between different film-holders. One of them, the 35mm mounted film holder has been affected by the described defect in the scan process.
As I get accustomed to the comfortable features in SilverFast for Mac OS Panther I use to change from SilverFasts PS-CS-Plugin along the welcome dialog in the options menue into the safari browser, activating online status by the Mac menue bar at first or second, saving textclips in textedit, controlling the mailaccount in Mac?s mailprogram once I?m online. I continue scanning saving the files on different drives. The system?s setting for the system?s hard drive: "activate sleep mode, as far as possible" is clicked allowed - but this last detail IMHO is not important here. Getting more and more encouraged by Panther?s multi-tasking workflow I tried also to change into another program (Mac?s mail-program or textedit in offline status) meanwhile the scan-process itself. This has been a less good idea, but I saved the running scan by starting the force quit dialog without pressing the enter button. By chance, or in one of all these cirumstances I noticed the problem I described the first time, that occurs only with the 35mm silde-carrier, although I ran through the described procedure with other carriers without bugs. The described problem persisted even after a reboot, although I didn?t made any use of plug and play with the multi tasking fubnctions any more. "By chance" the problem seem to diappear now? We?will see... however I don?t have any more slides left to scan this week.
The concrete problem occurs always while the clock-symbol is running in the exchange-process between SF and PS.
In SF Ai 649r9c the installation ritual changed and only the twain plug-in is visible in the PS sub-folders, when the application and the plug in are installed both. The rest is alias only.
A Nikon Scan problem, that seems to be very similar to my actual SilverFast problem:
Still with Mac OS 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 and the Nikon Scan 4 PS 6.0 plug-in I had similar problems periodically last summer , no matter if Photoshop 6.0 had plenty enough memory reserved. These porblems are mentioned as well in Nikon?s installer "read me first" - bug list, but for a special film carrier (16mm) I don?t use. These Nikon Scan problems disappeared (typically Mac OS classic) by rebooting without extensions, rebooting with extensions and rebuilding of desktop-file. But they disappeared only periodically and came back after a few scans. A reason why I changed to Stand-alone-mode with Nikon Scan 4, that I use sometimes for Kodachromes. In Nikon?s Stand alone mode I never remember this problem.
I?m afraid I?can?t tell any more.....
