Hi,
I use an LS-2000 and was trying to connect it to an iBook's (MacOS 9.2.1) firewire port via the Microtech FireSCSI Xpress adapter http://www.microtechint.com/qs-firescsi.html
... so far without success.
SilverFast (5.5) can't find the scanner and while the Apple System Profiler recognizes some device, it only shows a cryptic alpha-numeric string but it is not identified as "something... Nikon".
Has some one gotten this combination to work or is it just a waste of time to keep on experimenting?
Are there any other adapters out there that will work?
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Cheers Martin

Martin.
Our implementation for the LS2000 uses drivers from Nikon which make the communication with the scanner. If the driver does not see the scanner, SilverFast has no change to work.
Did you try the latest SilverFast upgrade for the LS2000 ?
Did you install the Nikon Scan software and does it work ?
Eric.

If this works for Martin in OS 9, could this adapter be a solution for those of us with LS-2000s (and LS-30s) who want to work in OS X? Or will the software still see it as a SCSI device at the end of a firewire connection? My understanding of the problem is that Nikon did not develop SCSI drivers for OS X, or is this solution to good to be true? There is an LS-2000 module (driver?) that was installed as part of the Nikon MAID file in the OSX Library by Silverfast. (Library>application support>Nikon>Nikon MAID)
Thanks
Thanks

Peter.
This will not be a solution for the OSX problem. Nikon?s driver, which we are using, do not support the LS2000 on OSX. Furthermore, Nikon states, that they never will support the LS2000 on OSX.
The only way to make the LS2000 work on OSX is that we implement the entire communication ourselves. We have the documentation that we need from Nikon, but have not yet sheduled the implementation.

Hi again,
it is my pleasure to announce that things are working now: SF finds the scanner and first test scans indicate that everything works as flawlessly as with a native SCSI connection.
The reason?
Well, installing a device driver sure makes all the difference ;-)
The Microtech adapter requires a tiny extension that simulates a SCSI bus on the FW port; that did the trick.
I would also like to use the opportunity to congratulate LaserSoft to one of the most user-unfriendly installation/registration procedures I'm aware of. Not only does it require ! 3 ! differnt serials but after entering my info for the first time and clicking OK I got a prompt to insert the CD, quit & restart SF. Of course the info was lost after that and I had to start over.
Not to mention the well-hidden way to enter the code for the IT8 option - clicking through 3 dialog boxes - where is that mentioned in the manual??
I can see room for improvement here.
Anyway as everything is running as smoothly as possible here I will rant no more ;-)
Have a nice weekend!
Cheers Martin
