Hardware and focus errors

Postby sebastiaankop » Sat Dec 25, 2010 5:29 pm

Hi there,

Nikon Scan software and Nikon drivers for the LS 50ED scanner are -not- compatible with windows 7 64bit. Therefore i have purchased "silverfast se plus". I hoped for spectacular results but here's what's happened:

Setup: Windows 7 64bit
Scanner: Coolscan LS 50ED

While scanning the process ends with 'hardware error'.
While scanning the process ends with 'cannot focus'.
While batch scanning the process ends with 'cannot focus'.

Solutions that i've tested before asking on this forum:

Tried a bunch of different settings on SF. Did not help.
Tried to scan without autofocus cause of the focus error. Then i got another error.
Switched between batch scan and frame scan. Did not help.
Removed SF and reinstalled SF. Did not help.
Reinstalled my system using windows 7 32bit. Did not help.
Installed 'Nikon Scan' on my new windows 7 32bit install. Problem solved.

All is good but i want to use silverfast cause i think it's much better than the standard Nikon Scan software.

How do i get SF to run without focus and / or hardware errors?

Thank you,

Sebastiaan Kop.

Dear Mr. Kop,

Please be aware, that NikonScan introduces incompatible drivers into 64bit systems and should not be installed there.

If it is installed:
- boot without the scanner so drivers are not loaded.
- uninstall NiconScan.
- reboot to finish uninstall.
- install SilverFast again for correct drivers.
- reboot to finish driver installation and attach scanner.

If this did not help please tell me which adapter you are using.
have you tried pulling it out and reinserting it?
What kind of filmmaterial are you scanning?

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn

Dear Herr Ketelhohn,,

Does that mean that the Win7 / 64 bit version is using LSI's replacement libraries (instead of Nikon MAID) or has LSI enclosed the Nikon Maid modules in a software "wrapper" and ?

The reason i ask is there was some thought in the past about moving away from ICE and the Nikon MAID modules with a future version.
