Do I really need to un-install SF AI & HDR to upgrade? HOW?

I just downloaded the latest upgrade to SF AI & HDR. They BOTH say uninstall before installing the new upgraded programs. Is this really necessary... and if so How the hell do I uninstall?

No, you do not need to uninstall previous versions, just go ahead and install the new versions !

I had already trashed what I could find and installed the new versions... but it didn't ask me to re-register so I guess I missed the preference files for the old install...

yes, this is correct, the serial number etc. is stored separately !
You trashed the previos version, but you could have just installed the new one over it...
