digital ice

Postby jayobrien » Sun Sep 26, 2004 4:23 am

Have nikon coolscan iv, using sf se. How does digital ice work with this program? Noticed on scanning slides lots of dust, not noticible when scanned in using nikon scan. Using sf as photoshop plug in in version 6.0

Thanks Jay O'Brien

Dear Mr O'Brien

thanks for your posting. Please update to the latest SilverFast version. You will have two different settings of ICE with that one which might improve your scans.

Generally spoken, SilverFast and NikonScan are using the NikonMAID driver libraries for scanning. Digital ICE is kind of a plugin developed by ASF. Thus the scanning software(s) us/are not able to specify closely, how exactly ICE should work in a given scan.
All-in-all, the effects of ICE can be expected to be very similar.

Please note that while ICE works on defects like a charm, it is not magical. The scanned image does necessarily decrease a bit in quality. The good ol' duster still has its uses...

Kind regards
