Digital ICE 'Professional' on the LS9000 and SilverFast

Postby JustRight » Wed Jul 13, 2005 11:08 pm

Hello again,

Now that I actually have managed to get SilverFast working with my new LS9000 I have a couple of new questions I hope you can help me with.

1) The LS9000 provides a version of ASF's Digital ICE labelled "Digital ICE Professional". This provides specific support for scanning Kodachrome, or at least is 'more compatible with Kodachrome'. When using Nikon Scan 4.0.2 the Film Types available include "Positive", "Negative" and specifically "Kodachrome".
SilverFast for the LS9000 does not offer a Kodachrome film type. Does SilverFast support the version of Digital ICE that is implemented on the LS9000? Is there a setting that SilverFast can use to implement the Kodachrome option of the LS9000?

2) When performing a 'Prescan', if I set the Preview Quality to any value above 4x, the prescan hangs part way through and SilverFast becomes unresponsive. I have to kill it using Task Manager. Is there any known problem with the Nikon scanners when using high quality prescans? What could the problem be?

Thanks,
Trevor.

Dear Trevor,

SilverFast uses the latest ICE implementation, but it doesn't have a separate profile for Kodachrome films.

To what setting in SilverFast do you refer to by "Preview Quality"? Is it the high resolution preview?

Best regards
Martin

Hello,

Thanks for the reply.

The option I'm trying to describe is "High resolution prescan". I have found that any value from 1x through to 5x works correctly. If I set the value higher than 5x though the prescan process hangs when part way through and I have to kill SilverFast using Task Manager.

This is not a major issue as I find that 4x or 5x seems to give me adequate preview quality, but I would like to know if it is perhaps a problem with my system.

Best regards,
Trevor.
