I have a question for you on proper pre-final scans in SilverFast. In Adobe Camera Raw I was used to using the eye-dropper tool to peg the deepest shadow and brightest highlight points of an image and ACR would do a fairly decent job of eliminating clipping in the shadows and highlights.
What is the best way to achieve the same end in SilverFast? Do you peg the HighLights and Shadows with the highlight and shadow tools on either side of the eye-dropper and when these measurement have been made THEN hit the AUTO adjust button? This would be for the difficult images as I would rather scan flat when possible and make these adjustment in PhotoShop and/or LightRoom when possible... but sometimes it's necessary.
Are the procedures any different when scanning B&W with NegaFix??
Best way of adjusting images in SF with Histogram ??

Dear Hassiman,
auto already tries to do si in an automatic way, if you do not like the result either change the way the automatic mode behaves or set the b/w point manually.
It actually doesn't matter what you do first as we always have the original image in back storage !

What is the proper way of setting the Black & White points manually? Can this be done both before and after auto adjusting an image?

Dear hassiman,
setting the black/white points before the auto adjustment would provide any benefit.
The automatic would set them new.
But you can adjust them after using the automatic if you need to.
kind regards

Dear Arne,
OK... I have use the Auto adjust function and I wish to use the black & white points to make further adjustments. Do I use the black and white triangle icons that are on either side of the dropper tool and set the points where I want them and the program will them make the changes or is there another step involved?

Dear hassiman,
you got that right.
The white triangle defines your lightest point in an image.
The black triangle defines your darkest point in an image.
Another way to do this is by moving the black/white triangle below the histogram.
kind regards
Arne Ketelhohn.
