B&W scans with SilverfastV5.5or14

Have successfully used v5.5 on colour negs but today tried B&W negs. Resulting ghost scans bear no relation to Preview in Silverfast. System is Win 2000 and LS 2000. with Photoshop 6.1 . Nikonscans are fine so scanner and Photoshop don't seem to be the problem. Know about BxW and clear image but makes no differance. Tried Densitometer in K position , no effect.
Any ideas ?

I have just downloaded version 5.5or18 and installed it. The B/w scans using 21-8 bit grayscale are just beautiful.

many thanks for your information! I used NikonScan 3.1 for my B&W Favorites until I downlodad SF v5.5or18 today. Now I get the first B&W scans based on SF which are OK.
