I was not expecting (and did not want) a Linux 'driver , for my scanner. The common trend nowadays seems to be have stand alone devices, so I was hoping the 8100 would work with just mains power and deliver a raw image where I could do my own processing , but it looks like these scanner are wedded to
to a PC application .. so no sales to i-Pads, android devices, chrome netbooks and all the modern range of devices people now use.
For most things this would not be an issue, the market would move to these and the old win-devices would die a natural death ... problem is , film/ slide already died ...by the time a portable scanner get developed all the scanning may have been done (so nobody bothers to sell the portable scanner)
