Silverfast Preview Caching and Multitasking Job Manager

Is there some way Silverfast can store the zoomed in prescan image of each frame? Consider: Zoom in to Frame 1 (scanner does a prescan of #1), then zoom in to Frame 2 (scanner does a prescan of #2), then zoom in to Frame 1 again. Now the scanner has to prescan #1 again. It seems that Silverfast stores exactly one prescan image at a time.

It would be a great help if SF could store all the prescan images in a session, and flush them only when another overview scan is initiated. This way I could go back and forth among several different frames without the time wasting prescan over and over again.

Another great feature would be a fully multi tasking job manager. That way, I could get Frame 1 to scan while I work on Frame 2. Once Frame 2 is ready, add it to the scan queue and get to work on Frame 3 and so on.

BTW, I use a Howtek 4500 with SF ver. 6.

Productive Preview-Zoom in SilverFast with Highres Preview

There is a simple solution for your problem. SilverFast Ai has a high resolution preview which can be activated under:

General-Panel --> Options.. --> General -->High Resolution Preview

The first preview might be slower but after that you can always directly zoom in without driving the scanner. This way you can fill your drum with slides, perform a preview and quickly prepare the settings for all your images with the high res preview!

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes setting the preview to 8x solved my problem. A prescan of the entire drum takes about 7-8 minutes, but after that setting up the jobs is a snap.

I appreciate the suggestion. But I think a truly multi-tasking scan queue would be far more productive. BTW, is scanning in HDR mode faster than scanning in, say 8 bit or 16 bit mode? If not, I am not sure what the advantage of scanning in HDR mode is, apart from the flexibility of the file format. You have to realize that the Howtek is rather on the slow side and I often do not really need a 16 bit scan?
