Move strip in AFL

Postby Antonio Marques » Tue Aug 17, 2010 4:43 pm

Hi,

With AFL scanners there is a 'compensate film offset' option with which we can move the strip left or right by clicking on the point we want to be the new start or end of the preview. But this tool isn't very accurate and sometimes we need to move more than it allows. Besides, I could never understand which part of the pointer is used to calculate the point to which to move to - iirc the pointer looks like |-> which isn't very explicit. In fact, neither the part under the | nor under the tip of the > ends up as the edge of the new preview.

For me, a workaround for this problem would be to have a small input box where I could put a number (pixels? mm? in? picas? anything would do) and then press a button with a -> or another with a <- to move left or right. It would work great because even if the measure wasn't accurate, it usually is consistent - that is, I'd soon find out, by trial and error, that what I needed for a given movement would be - say - '500', and then I'd rely on that when trying to move strips. I suppose the code for moving them is already in SF, all that would be needed would be 3 UI controls and their handling. The trickiest part might be to protect the scanner in case the user specified a value too large that could crash or damage something. But it would be a very welcome addition.

Also, it would be nice if after using the (current) 'compensate film offset' option, the selected tool didn't change. As it is now, one compensations is seldom enough, and the user has to select the compensator again before asking for a second one.

Thanks
Antonio Marques
