Help function

Postby EMaerkel » Thu Nov 03, 2005 11:52 pm

Nowadays, the user expects a help function in the programm (accessible via menu, via Help button and/or F1 softkey). Help is the first thing, a new user would search for when a question comes up. The videos offered are nice idea and might be an useful extra, but I find them unsuitable as a replacement for the help, because the video does not allow random access to the information required. Furthermore, the videos are in foreign language - including the user interface shown in the videos. Sometimes the speaker simply reads the names of the parameters and possible values without explanation - this is something the user sees already on his PC.

However, there is a very good PDF manual, which might be used as a replacement for a windows help file. Links would have to be placed in the programm for an easy access to the appropriate pages.

Dear Eckart

compiling a Windows help file wouldn't be of much use outside the Microsoft world. PDF is the way we prefer.
An additional HTML documentation I would personally suggest, but we rather update our manuals as often as possible as be involved in redundant work.

Best regards

Today, windows help files are compiled from HTML, so having HTML would make it easy to create a windows help file.
However, for me as the user, the help file format does not really matter. So let me clarify: My suggestion was to improve the link from the user interface to the documentation (whatever format is has).

Best regards
