Eliminating wave pattern

I'd jump for joy if there was a way to eliminate the wave pattern that shows up over my scanned negs! (yes, I believe they are very flat..)

Also a polorizing effect would be real nice.

What scanner are you using? If you are using a flatbed and laying the negs directly on the glass this would be the cause of the"wave" patterns, otherwise known as newtons rings
