Would it be possible and useful to have the following workflow for slide feeders (Nikon for example):1) prescan and make auto/manual adjustments to each slide and add to the "job", 2) reload the feeder, 3) initiate the final scans (the job) and go do something else ( sleep!). This would appear to be consistent with the strip/roll feeder workflow described in the manual. Thanks,

Frank

Frank,

So which part of the process you describe is SilverFast with Job Manager NOT doing that needs to be added or is not functioning with the current version? If by any chnace you mean that the fearure is not available on your system then this is likely to be because you haven't purchased the optional extra activation code for the ADF unit.

I have Job Manager activated with HDR and so have been able to do pretty much as you describe with up 300 images in one run. On the various scanner units I've used I could do as many as the film carrier allowed.

Ian

i was trying to do this without resorting to using HDR since Job Manager is integrated in the scanner specific version now. The manual makes no mention of being able to do this with the slide feeder, only the film roll and strip feeders. My conversation with US tech support indicated that this was because the slide feeder was not able to back up to the starting frame/slide like the strip and roll feeders. Hence, my proposed workflow.

It appears that this works with the film strip/roll feeder (per the manual), so i was wondering if the batch slide feeder could be made to work similarly by reloading the feeder. One issue might be physical alignment of the slide between the two passes preventing consistent cropping, but the other functions should work, i think.

If I understand you correctly the difficulty arises because of the way the ADF unit works rather than SilverFast per sae. If you can manualy reload the ADF unit then unless you have a mighty bad Nikon scanner I would lay very good odds that mislignment between your original presan and the final scan will be minimal if any at all. On my Nikon unit I have never got a misalignment between subsequent scans and certainly others have indicated similar experiences. I don't have the ADF unit so it might be different, but its still worth trying.

So assuming the Job Manager is available for use when the ADF unit is installed I would simply manually reload and try your luck. It would appear that nothing in what you describe can be overcome by a feature change in SilverFast.

i was hoping that that would be correct.
The assumption that Job Manager is enabled with the Slide feeder (add on software) control program is the real question to LSI and so far LSI has not commented (other than the negative reply from US tech support above). So i assume that LSI would have to "enable" job manager support in the SF-200s slide feeder control software or perhaps slightly change how it works for the slide feeder unit. At this point i can not afford the $1000 investment for an experiment. Thanks,

Frank
