Will SilverFast 6 Initialize the Dimage 5400?

I am a new owner of both SilverFast AI 6 and a Dimage 5400 scanner. When I power up the scanner, the status light blinks until the device is initialized. For now, it seems that only the Minolta scan utility can initialize the 5400. I can then exit the scan utility and use SilverFast. Can SilverFast directly initialize the scanner? Thanks.

I power up the scanner BEFORE opening up Photoshop Elements 2. When I have loaded Elements I open up Silverfast (6.2.1r9) plug-in and it initializes the scanner perfectly - takes about 30 seconds. This has to be done BEFORE inserting a transparency or negative carrier.

If you are performing a Batch Job you still have to perform the above first - then close Silverfast, insert the carrier and open Silverfast again. It appears that the Minolta will not allow you to follow Ian Lyons Tutorial to the letter.
