KM Scan Elite 5400 and Silverfast SE

Postby Matt Hunt » Tue Aug 15, 2006 12:25 pm

Hi

I've got a Konica Minolta Scan Elite 5400 that I bought second hand. I've put about 15 rolls of film through it (slide), making over 300 scans with no problems other than the odd hang-up. I was using Silverfast SE (the at the time current version).

Last week I was going to scan some colour negs. Before starting Silverfast told me an update was available. I dl'd this and it installed OK. The negs were in blocks of 4 so after the 4 frames had scanned I cancelled the remaining scan to avoid scanning the last two empty slots in the holder.

The negative holder stayed in the scanner and refused to come out. Finally, after pressing eject and turning the scanner on and off several times, I gave it a gentle tug and then the scanner gave back the negative holder. Since then, when using silverfast, if bulk scanning, the scanner will only scan the first frame for either slides or negatives. So frames 2-4 will be the first frame scanned all over again.

To check it was not the motor that had failed (i.e. the holder was not able to advance beyond the position for the first frame) I have made scans using the KM Dimage software. This will scan all frames but then tells me it cannot save the file.

Has anybody else met this problem or got any ideas please?

Dear Matt

please delete the "LaserSoft Imaging" folder (while SF isn't running) and check whether this does improve the situation.

On a typical Windows XP installation, the SilverFast "LaserSoft Imaging" folder is to be found at:
C: \ Documents and Settings \ (your username) \ Application Data \

If you haven't yet changed the standard setting of the Windows Explorer you won't see any folder "Application Data". You then want to open the folder options dialogue (from "Extras" the menu) and go to the "View" tab. There you can enable the Explorer to show you hidden and system files and folders as well as displaying the contents of system folders.

On a typical Mac OS X installation, the SilverFast "LaserSoft Imaging" folder is to be found at:
/ User / (your username) / Library / Preferences /

Best regards

OK, I'll try that tonight or tomorrow and report back.

Thanks.

Friday....

Hi

Having reinstalled SF I've tried batch scanning again.

first of all the scanner would not pull in the slide holder. However it has now scanned a complete set of 4 properly. I then ejected the slide holder and it went back in properly.

Hopefully it is fixed.

Thanks

Matt
