I bought SF AI 6 for my Minolta Dual Scan III last week.
Unfortunately the first day after purchase I ran in problems with scanner functionality. After about 2h of use (the 2nd hour without scan activity, just switched on) the scanner case became very very hot and it smelled like something has melted on an electronic board.
After cooling down the scanner had been working again, but at a higher noise level! And I also have fear, that heating up will come again.
Concerning this matter I have a question about bulb brightness control of silverfast software. In SF AI there a button for an automatic setting of bulb brightness. Unfortunately I didn't find further informations about the functionality of this button. Is it possible, that the scanner is becoming more hot with SF than with Minolta scanner software?
Maybe it's just a coincedence and the problems are totally independend from SF, but it's a bit suspicious, that it happened the 2nd day of silverfast usage.

Defective Dual Scan III after use of SF AI / Coincedence?
Dear Erwin
coincidence, you are absolutely right about this suggestion.
SilverFast doesn't use your scanner differently from the Minolta software.
You might want to see your dealer for a warranty claim.

Hi Sonny,
thanks for your reply.
The reason for writing my first statement was based on the following suggestion:
I didn't switch off the scanner after some scans for about one hour. So it heated up without any scan activity.
I also forgot to turn off the scanner with Minolta software several times without heating up.
Can you also exclude the following behavior:
Is it possible that Minolta software is switching to a low power mode after a certain time of inactivity and SF is keeping the bulb at full power?
Unfortunately I can't test this behavior at the moment, cause I returned my scanner to the dealer. Hope Minolta will show a goodwill, cause my warranty ran out just one month ago.
