35mm, 4800dpi, glass carrier scans?

Postby kbrookner » Mon Nov 17, 2003 3:02 am

i have a Minolta DiMAGE Scan Multi Pro that i use with silverfast. i have some very curly 35mm frames that i want to scan with the glass carrier. is there a way to do this with silverfast so that i get the native 4800 dpi scan from the scanner?

do i need a special holder or masks?

thanks,
kenb

Dear kbrookner.

No Problem! Silverfast is perfect for this kind of job since you get to manually adjust all required parameters. I would be careful with the automatic settings for this special purpose and watch out for Newton Rings!

Kind regards.

I use the Minolta optional "Multi format" holder to scan 35mm panoramic frames. When you use this, you place the strip in the middle of the holder. I don't really know how it works, and it would be reassuring to understand, but it does seem that you indeed get native 4800dpi in such cases. I guess if you set 4800dpi for a full frame (6x9) it would be interpolated. As I say, it would be nice to get some software confirmation of this (or say an interpolation warning), but realistically there must be a limit to the depth for which Silverfast can economically be customised for each and every scanner
