Problem with scanning slides in film rolls with Microtek3600

Postby alexandern » Fri Oct 07, 2005 10:23 am

I am using Silverfast AI with a Microtek 3600, and have so far had good scanning results with black and white negatives, but tremendous problems with slides when scanning them in as film rolls. Neither Silverfast nor the Microtek scanning software seem to be able to properly recognize the slides and always prescans with a bar in the middle, i.e. covering two half-slides. The Offset button doesn't really help because I have to use it sometimes five times to move the film back so that the slide is being covered properly. Can anyone help and tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks, Alex

Dear alexandern

sounds as if you can correct the offset with the provided tool. So, what's the matter? I think you're doing okay.
Of course it would be preferrable to have to software identify the boundaries of the images, but that would imply some information been given from the scanner that's not quite possibly with this model as far as I know.

Thank you - yes, I can move the film strip forward with the Offset button, but then I have to do it about ten times before it moves to the correct spot. This move, however, still doesn't guarantee that the scanner "sees" the following pictures correctly. The only solution I can see is to scan in each photo individually, which isn't so useful since the scanner is supposed to scan whole film rolls. Besides, it recognizes Black and White negatives perfectly fine, so I think the problem is with the software that is set incorrectly so that it does not recognize colour slides properly. Is there anything else I can do?

Dear Alex

if you did change the film offset and still the images aren't correctly displayed, we might want to check out the problem more closely.

I suggest you want to download and install the latest update release of your version of SilverFast from our website. You might experience that this already does solve your problem.

If not, please don't hesitate to contact support: https://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html

Slides cannot be recognized properly

Thanks for the tip, the software got updated properly. It did not do much to the problem but one thing did help - scan the film backwards and reverse them during the scanning process. I hope this works. For some reason, this process makes it easier for the software to recognize properly the delineation of each picture.
Regards
Alex
