For ScanMaker X12USL (as probably for other models) Microtek offers the MTMA transparency adapter (moving light source). This works together with a plastic mask to be put on the glass plate which reduces the usable scan area and has a special field for Light calibration.
Microtec Scan Wizard when switched to negative or positive transparencies provides a scan field identical to the usable area and switches off the lower light source used for reflective scans.
SilverFast Ai for this scanner does not do any of this, and gives in most cases unacceptable pictures because the negative is lighted from both sides.
I was disappointed to find that even in Version 6 (demo) this is not corrected. This makes Ai near to useless for this scanner because specifically for negative scanning the advantages of SilverFast are attractive.
Are there any specific tricks to be used to make Silverfast work correctly in this constellation? Does the software for a different Microtek model support MTMA for my scanner? Did anyone have different/better experience?

Dear Thomas,
no decision has been taken yet, whether we will support this TPU or not. We are going to investigate how "easy" it would be to support it. In any case, an update of SilverFast for this TPU would not be available before january 2003.
