So who makes the decision for which model to support IT8, and for which not to - Microtek, SilverFast, or...?
Who makes the decision about functionality for a particular
Not so long ago I purchased Microtek ScanMaker 4 bundled with SilverFast. When I went for an upgrade, I found out that for some Microtek scanners there is IT8-enabled version, and for some (and mine
)there is no. The scanner also came with IT8 targets.
So who makes the decision for which model to support IT8, and for which not to - Microtek, SilverFast, or...?

LaserSoft Management makes this decision. As for the targets, yes it is confusing, because with a Microtek scanner you receive a heap of software. Among it is ScanWizard, which also provides a calibration tool. And the targets are meant for the Microtek calibration tool. It has nothing to do with SilverFast.

The decision for integrated features in the bundled version is also determined by the scanner manufacturer, as it is his decision what he wants to put into the package (how much value). The IT8 target, of course, if it is already there, can be used with the SilverFast Ai IT8 calibration (once the user has bought the upgrade) and deducted from the upgrade price.
Ok, 5.5 is out, and even more reasons for upgrade... So may I order an upgrade of existing 5.x w/o IT8 support for 5.5 with IT8 support, but not to pay for targets? In your on-line story I see only one check box: "IT8 upgrade with Color Target".
Also: if I don't want the software to be shipped (download only, no needs for printed manual), what should I choose in "Please Ship By"?
And how much it will be?
One more question: if I order IT8 upgrade, will I be able to download future upgrades, bearing in mind that there is no IT8 support for my scanner in versions on your site? I even had an opportunity to install an IT8-enabled version from your site for Microtec scanners, and it failed to recognize my scanner.
PS The scanner is Microtek ScanMaker 4.

Lurker,
I think that the President was saying that you can order the IT8 upgrade and not pay for the target(s). You'll need to call them to place the order, though. Also, if you can upgrade to IT8, then any future updates you buy/download will include IT8 even if it's not listed on the download page as such. And, make sure that you have the reference files for your IT8 target(s). They're available on this website at:
http://www.silverfast.com/download/it8c ... on-en.html
You'll need the appropriate one(s) before you can calibrate. Thanks,
Ian
