Scanmaker 9800XL incompatibility with SCSI

I have a scanmaker 9800XL hooked up through firewire and a Howtek 4500 hooked up through SCSI, both scanners driven by SF6 AI. When the Howtek is powered up, SF for Microtek does not sense the scanmaker, thinking it is hooked up to the scsi chain.

So I can power up only one of the two scanners when booting up. I did not have this problem with an Epson 2450 (also hooked up through firewire) and the Howtek, which means it is the Microtek version of SF6 which is probably the culprit.

Any chance this can be fixed? I am using version 6.4.1.r4 for both scanners.

if the problem is due to a driver conflict, there's nothing LaserSoft Imaging will be able to do about it.
