Microtek 9800xl with tma cannot use Ai?
Microtek 9800xl with tma cannot use Ai?
I have 2 new 9800xl microtek scanners that are replacing 2 other ones. I replaced one and I cannot get silverfastAi to run. it keeps telling me "cannot calibrate scanner" It only happens with the newest scanners. I have replaced these scanners 3 times allready within 2 years of purchase due to lines throughout the image the lines are red green black and blue. I know it has something to do with missing data but microtek cannot tell me why or how to fix it. I have taken Ai off and installed the microtek scanmaker software and it doesnt compare to Ai. Has anyone had this problem with the 9800xl scanners? Does SilverfastAi work with these scanners? I downloaded the newest version to no avail. HELP PLEASE

I'm stuck with the same issue - on a Microtek 9800XL scanner, Silverfast fails with the message "Cannot calibrate scanner". Your message indicated that there is a patch for the software but you did not say where to get the patch or what it is called. I downloaded and installed the latest version of Silverfast (v6.5.0r3d) and the message still occurs.
I have to say that this error is costing us dearly in our project schedule. Please advise of what I'm missing in the workaround.
thanks

Microtek 9800XL scanner software problem
Martin, thank you for your reply. However, I still have a problem with your website downloads. If I request an update for the Microtek Scanmaker 9800 - TWAIN version under:
"Free updates for current users – Download TWAIN version"
I end up at https://www.silverfast.com/get_update/e ... ed_type=tw
and the download made available is, SilverFast Ai IT8 Version: 6.5.5r3
File size: 8.38 MB, Date: 2007-12-03
You specified that we need release 4, not 3 as above. How can I get access to release 6.5.5r4?
thank you for your help

Re: Microtek 9800xl with tma cannot use Ai?
I was running into the same problem with a Microtek 9800XL with the TMA attached. Came across this thread searching for a solution. After messing with the scanner for a while I realized that it was a pretty simple mistake on my part. I had the film template backwards so that calibration window on the scanner bed was blocked. This resulted in the "cannot calibrate scanner" message.
Pretty simple mistake on my part, but the TMA manual simply states that the calibration window should be kept clear. It doesn't mention what will happen if you don't which would have saved me some time.
Just leaving a note here in case someone else is searching about this problem in the future. Or in case I forget all about this between now and the next time that I go to scan a negative.

Re: Microtek 9800xl with tma cannot use Ai?
Hi,
I think I am having a similar problem, if anyone can help it would be fantastic.
I have a microtec 9800XL with a TMA 1600 III lid and I am using Silverfast Ai Studio 8 software.
When I do a scan in reflective mode it works perfectly. When I try to do a scan using the transparency mode I get all these weird super bright colours in the background of what the transparent thing I am trying to scan. In my previous scanner of the same spec the background would be brilliant white.
To try and fix this I have tried calibrating.....When I do the auto calibration on reflective it woks perfectly using the 'Laser soft Imaging' !T8.7/2-1993 2013:12 colour calibration chart. So I don't think the scanner head is dirty.
it's only in transparency mode that it's a problem
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Re: Microtek 9800xl with tma cannot use Ai?
Dear Camilla,
Is maybe the calibration area blocked?
This area must remain clear of any material.
Even a slight disturbance will cause effects like you describe them.
The film holders leave a free area for this.
Make sure they are positioned correctly.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
