what about the Demo.

I have to test it first before I buy.
though all the previous demo were not working... I'am not ready to buy without prior test !

Another two weeks (nearly) have gone by and the new SE versions have still not been posted.

I?m really, really sorry about that delay. Things like that simply shouldn?t happen.

Arne Glet kindly gave me the opportunity to try the latest Ai version 6.0.2r01. Unfortunately this does not work either - the fault is still present.

I am beginning to believe that this bug will reach its second anniversary (on 13 March 2004).

I am wondering what I have to do to get SilverFast to take this problem seriously.

Should I just give up and stick with 5.5.1r09 for ever?

Dear Peter.

I hoped my fix would solve your problem. The bug existed in the TWAIN version only, I have never had a problem with the PhotoShop version.

I?m not sure how to proceed from here. Since you are saying, that you also have the same problem with SF_App and the PhotoShop version (and also on Win2K), it seems that you have a totally different problem than the one that I found. Without having the possibility to reproduce this behaviour, I simply cannot find a bug.

There is no meaning in sending an SE version, if the Ai is not working, because both versions are identical in terms of communication with the scanner.

The bug is clearly something that was introduced into the program code between 5.5.1r09 and 5.5.2r02.

5.5.1r09 - works OK
5.5.2r02 - hangs 'searching devices'
6.0.1r10 - hangs 'searching devices'
6.0.1r13 - hangs 'searching devices'
6.0.1r19 - hangs 'searching devices'
6.0.1r26 - hangs 'searching devices'
6.0.1r28 - hangs 'searching devices'
6.0.1r28 - hangs 'searching devices'
6.0.1r42 - 'searching devices' for a few seconds then error 'there was no scanner found'
6.0.1r44 - 'searching devices' for a few seconds then error 'there was no scanner found'
6.0.2r01 (Ai) - 'searching devices' for a few seconds then error 'there was no scanner found'

I originally started this topic to try and find out whether the problem was unique to my system. "kirool" clearly has the same problem, and I have since established that the scenario is exactly reproducible on a different PC with a different Windows version.

Maybe kirool and I are the only people trying to use SilverFast with a USB X6. What has not been established is that anyone at all is succesfully using this combination. I think I'll put a query on one of the scanner newsgroups.

Meanwhile I am quite prepared to experiment and test to assist LaserSoft resolve the problem.

I parsed our revision history to see what was changed between 551.r09 and 552r02. Actually there was one change, which was needed for the X6 on Win98. LSI_Ralf will contact you with a test version directly. Hopefully we can find your problem now.

we wrote many e-mails, so you may know me. Your Problem is solved after version 6.02r06. The current version is without this problem (the X6 runs fine). The 6.0.2r01 was a too old master, sorry for this.

Goods news - I hope. Forgive me for being just a little bit sceptical - I have been here before.

Ai Twain 6.0.2d31 2003-05-26.

I will try the last one. If it works, I will look forward to the SE releases.

Just to close that thread:
The problem was solved finally. The driver installation for the X6 USB was corrupt. The better checking introduced with version 5.5.2 did prevent SilverFast from finding the scanner in that situation. After the driver installation was fixed, everything was working again.

Yes, although the ScanWizard/driver installations seemed to have worked without incident and both SilverFast (pre 5.5.2) and ScanWizard worked, it seems there were some driver elements missing.

Many thanks to Ralf and all his colleagues for their patience in guiding me towards the resolution of the problem.
