6.4.0r9 + Microtek i900 + Mac OS X = "Searching for Dev

Postby Johnwnyc » Mon Jan 10, 2005 2:23 am

I just upgraded to 6.4.0r9 for use with my newly purchased Microtek i900. Now, Silverfast Ai will not launch. It hangs on the "Searching for devices..." startup screen. (I waited 10 minutes). Why is this happening?

The version that shipped with my scanner is 6.2.1r4. Does this version support multi-sampling?

Dear John

we would need to examine your case in the SilverFast testing center, so please don't hesitate to contact LaserSoft Imaging support staff: http://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html

I would appreciate if you could paste a fresh copy of the SF_Logfile in the problem report.

On a Mac OS X PC you will find the SF_Logfile in /Users/(your username)/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging.

You could of course also you the search function of your system to find the "SF_Logfile". The SF_Logfile is always created anew when SilverFast is started up, even if no scanner can be found, it will be created.

Simply open it with your text editor (double clicking the SF_Logfile) and select all the text (Mac: CMD+A). Then copy the selection to the clipboard (CMD+C).
Go back to the problem report and click inside the text field. Move the text cursor to the end of your problem description and insert the SF_Logfile from the clipboard (CMD+V).

Thanks in advance for your co-operation.

Kind regards

Corrupted files in updater

Postby byersra » Wed Apr 06, 2005 9:00 pm

I was seeing a similar problem except rather than hanging, SF Launcher was unexpectedly quitting.

A look in the system log revealed the following:
----------------------------
2005-04-06 11:21:52.002 SF Launcher[461] CFLog (0):
CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): plist parse failed; the data is not proper UTF-8. The file name for this data could be:

The parser will retry as in 10.2, but the problem should be corrected in the plist.

----------------------------
It would seem there are some corrupted files in the updater.

I looked in the /Library/Application Support/LaserSoft Microtek/Support Bundles/Scanner_Drivers directory and noticed the updater had installed bundles for a number of Microtek scanners. I removed all of them except the directories for the i900 and the problem was solved.
