UPGRADE DEMO?

Postby rkrambs » Wed Mar 16, 2011 3:31 am

Hi, I have tried all the suggestions in the support site and this forum, but can not get the demo upgrade to function. I am currently using AI 6.62r3a. The only reason I wanted the demo is to see if the AI Studio version has the new multiexposure features and the improved "automatic" descreening filters. The detailed descriptions of which version has what features is somewhat confusing. Sorry if I have missed something, but I am bleary eyed from all of the reading. If I could be sure that the new features are indeed included in the AI Studio version then the demo is not even necessary.

Can someone please clear up the confusion for me. I would certainly appreciate.

Thanks,
Rhonda

Hi Ronda,

The demo version of Ai Studio has Multi-Exposure active as well as the de-screening filters. However, Multi-Exposure is not always included in SilverFast Ai Studio, if you are interesting in having Multi-Exposure you will then have to get the upgrade to "SilverFast Ai Studio ME".

If you want to test the demo but you already have SilverFast Ai installed on your computer, you just have to delete the serial number of your installed version. After deleting the serial number, SilverFast will work in demo mode and will have all other features available for testing purposes.
This can be accomplished using the service dialogue, start the SilverFast Launcher and hover your mouse over the starting button(without clicking), the small service dialogue button appears right next the the main starting button. Clicking onto the second small button will launch the service dialogue, there you will find an option to delete the serial number.

Thanks, I had already attempted to delete the serial number to get to the demo, but I had no luck. BUT - when I am at my computer tonight I will carefully read your instructions and try again in case I had missed a step the first time.

Thanks so much!

Still no Luck - did exactly as stated in your instructions, but still same old version. I really hate to pay out $$ without knowing if it is really going to be a big improvement for me. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

How do you know it is still serialized?

Well, I can't say for sure - all I know is I went to the launcher, selected the little tools icon to the right of the name of the current version, selected the option to delete serial number. Received confirmation that it was deleted. Open the software and the same options for screen filters and everything else is still the same. Same heading and interface.

I had also tried to delete the serial # within the interface of the current version by clicking on the "i" and then clicking on "credits", and deleting each box with the serial number. No change there either.

One thing I am not clear on is when you say go to the launcher and hover over the "starting" button. I am not seeing anything that indicates "starting", but the launcher indicates that you can launch all installed versions from there. Then I look at the list below (and there is only the current version to select) and without clicking there I click on the little tools to the right of it and that is where I delete the serial #.

Am I accessing the "main starting button" as indicated in your instructions?

Sorry, to drag this out so long, if I can not figure it out I will probably go ahead and do the upgrade. I turned down a job due to some intensely apparent diamond shaped texture in the originals - so this would be great if the new feature could help me get better results.

Thanks for all of your assistance.

Rhonda

Well, I am really confused now. The upgrade demo that I have downloaded appears to be the same one I had before. I hate to be such a goof, but I'm not sure which upgrade I need to go to. My current installed version is SF AI 6.6.2r4. I am wanting to upgrade to the new version that has the new descreening filters - which one do I need?? I select the SF AI Studio demo and it downloads the same version I have. My scanner is an Epson Perfection V750 Pro, Windows Vista 32 Bit. Please confirm which version I need to upgrade to.

Thanks.

Hi Rhonda,

The installer is the same for both the Ai and the Ai Studio version, the serial number releases some tools like AACO or Multi-Exposure in the demo version.

When you start the demo version of SilverFast do you have a message informing you about the differences of Ai and Ai Studio?

Yes, it is correct that is the button indicated and you did it right. Please make sure you are starting your computer session using and administrator account, sometimes deleting the serial number (or writing the serial number) does not work in normal user account.

Since I am the only one who uses my computer, I haven't paid any attention to whether I am under user or admin. I will take a look tonight.

And no, there is no message about differences in AI and AI Studio.

Now, one last question - Is there a new serial number that I am supposed to enter for the demo version? As far as I can tell, I do not have a new number to put there.

Thanks again for your patience.

Dear Rhonda

If SilverFast asks you for the serial number, it means the serial number you had was deleted and the program will work in demo mode. Demo mode is a full Ai Studio version with Multi-Exposure, AACO and the couple other tools available.

No, you do not need a serial number for the demo mode

FINALLY! Was able to open the demo. Your suggestion regarding 'administrator" vs. "user" was the key. After being sure I went through as administrator it worked exactly as described. Thanks so much!

Hello, I am experiencing the same issue. I have gone through all the above steps and have confirmed I am the administrator. However, I delete the serial number and it still starts up in standard SE. I want to Demo SE Plus Multi Exposure.

Thanks

Dear Jrlaguna,

I see you've already bought the upgrade. I figure things are working now.
