Universal SilverFast Launcher doesn't launch

Do I need Universal SilverFast Launcher or can I just ignore it? Mine doesn’t open, but I can still access SilverFast SE 8.

I have a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.9.4. I had SilverFast SE 6 and upgraded to SilverFast SE 8. When I open Universal SilverFast Launcher v.3.1.1, it says to "Press one of the buttons below to launch SilverFast UB." When I click on the button shown, "SilverFast (Epson-SE) (vers. 6.6.2r5)", nothing happens.
Also, when I roll over that button, the “Service Dialogue” icon appears, but when I click on it, nothing happens.

Dear customer,

your version of SilverFast 6 unfortunately does not support the operating system you tried to install it in.
Please remove the SilverFast 6 components and only use the SilverFast 8 icon to start SilverFast 8.
