Silverfast SE on Epson 4870 Photo

Postby BlueLemon » Fri Jul 30, 2004 10:24 pm

:o Just sold my Canon 9900F :o

Shouldn?t have done so - or so it seems.

Epson braggs about bundled Silverfast software and true 4800 / 48 bit scanning.....

Arrgg - have I been fooled yet again by gimmicks or are there any good advice ?

The scenario :

P4 with XP Pro, 1.5 gb RAM and Photoshop CS and Silverfast SE version 6.2.1.R3 (sf launcer ver. 2.0.7)

Everytime i start Silverfast via the SF launcher a fatal error occurs. I tried uninstalling and installing a never version (from the web).

I have written Support specifying my problems very specific and alson enclosing the SF log file. Nothing has happened yet.

The reason why i am less than satisfied is that i sold off my good scanner - in trade of this true 48 bit scanner. Using the Epson software you only get 24 bit - or 8 bit pr channel, as i prefer calling it. A long way from the 16 bit per channel i was promised.... Yack

I really wonder how anyone can sell anything not working the way the producer promises.....

So Silverfast Engineers or supporter - would you please help me out here, cause I am a split second from dumping both Epson and Silverfast.

- Yes i have a pulse of 180 right now - but solve this and it?ll go down to 80 again.... Anything, but do something.....

Dear Mr Stensgaard

I am really sorry to learn you feel neglected our support team.
As soon as I return to the office on Monday morning I will check out what happened to your support request(s) and make sure you'll get your questions answered quickly.

However, please be aware that the SE version of SilverFast you are using (6.2.1r3) indeed does only support 8 bits per color channel / 24 bits of color.
The Ai version of SilverFast does support the full 48 bits of color, of course.

Till Monday, have a nice weekend.
Kind regards

Dear Mr Stensgaard,

you will need to update your version to 621r8 (which should be available for download in one or two days). Starting with that version the SE version of SilverFast DOES support output of 16 bit per channel (we call it HDR output).

Best Regards
Ralf Magnussen
