Silverfast SE and Negatives

I have an Epson 2450 scanner. When I am scanning 35mm negatives, all I see in the preview window is a picture of the negative holder and 4 small negative images about 3/4inch x 1 inch. The Epson Twain driver works very well and I see thumbnails of the pictures as they should be. So why can't I get a picture preview of my negatives with Silverfast SE. I am running Windows XP and Siverfast SE 5.0 was loaded over Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0.
