Silverfast in Photoshop CS5 revisited

Postby Luzzano II » Sat Jul 17, 2010 4:16 pm

I have never been able to access my Silverfast Ai Studio from within Photoshop CS5. Recently however while my iMac was being repaired, I needed to install 6.6.2r1 on a newer iMac until my own machine was again available. I was surprised to find that Silverfast was listed under the Photoshop Import options on the second machine. When my own iMac was returned, I upgraded to 6.6.2r2 hoping I could then scan from within Photoshop; nothing changed. I have deleted the Silverfast preferences, I have also reinstalled Photoshop and there is still no scan option in Photoshop. Both machines have all O/S 10.6.4 updates and are configured exactly alike to the best of my knowledge.
What am I missing?
Thank you.

Hi Luzzano II

Photoshop CS5 should have been installed before installing SilverFast, if you installed SilverFast first then the creation of the alias will not work.

Please completely remove SilverFast from your system. The best way is to drop the file called "uninstall-SilverFast(scanner model).sh" into a terminal window, then activate the uninstall command by pressing the "enter" key in Terminal.

Then download and install the latest version of SilverFast.

After completing the installation, you will not only find the option in photoshop but you will find an icon to start photoshop in 32 bit mode (this is the only way SilverFast will work from within photoshop).

has not worked for me...

silverfast finds the scanner driver, will creat a preview, but then go off into neverland when i press scan.

to which I have to force quit photoshop, silverfast and then re start the scanner...

regards, Sandy

And some technical help is needed, but it seems I wont get... silverfast dont like angry or critical customers

Dear Sandy,

Perhaps you do not have the latest SilverFast version installed into your computer. You might want to try updating SilverFast on our homepage clicking the update button.

What do you mean by that, we do have technical support and, I have searched for a support ticket under your email address and could not find any. Please let me know your support ticket number and I will personally check what happened with your case.

Kind regards

I see the last entry and all preceding make no mention, still, of the likely appearance of a 64-bit version of the SF plug-in for Photoshop CS5. I'm afraid operating PS CS5 in 32-bit mode is a non-starter for me. So I am very interested in knowing if the Adobe log jam (which another thread on this subject suggested, from the moderator, was the impediment) has been cleared up? If not when? If so, when to expect the 64-bit SF plug for PS CS5. Thanks, as always.

Dear Howard,

That's right, there is no 64 bit plugin for the 64 bit photoshop CS5. I do not know about the adobe log jam you mentioned, perhaps if you provide the link I will be able to check out and see if that has something to do with the issue. Up to this point I can not give you a date on when to expect a 64 bit SF Plugin for ps CS5. If you consider starting photoshop in 32 bit mode a no go, then you have the option to use SilverFast as a standalone and then open your scanned pictures in photoshop cs5 64 bit mode.

Cheers
