Problems starting Silverfast AI Launcher

I just downloaded the Silverfat AI Demo, SFE-6.4.3r9(Epson).exe and installed it on my computer. When I start the launcher, it shows the Silverfast AI start window with some messages like "scanning for devices". Then, a second later all windows vanish and nothing happens. Also in the task manager no task is visible. I am using an Epson 3170 Photo and Windows XP.

What do I need to do in order to use it properly?

BTW, I already re-started the computer and the scanner is installed properly. No other scanner is installed.

Welcome to the club. I get exactly the same problem but am using a film scanner (Dimage Scan Elite 5400 2). It does not matter if I try to start Silverfast from Photoshop nor from launcher. The first window just shows up for a second and then disappears. Photoshop closes immediately.

Well, sometimes the solution is close. I looked at all items in the forum and found a suggestion from LSI_Noack that you could delete the Prefs folder that Silverfast places in "..Document and Settings\your_name\application data\lasersoft imaging\silverfast" ) on Windows.

I deleted this folder and Voil?, Silverfast starts up wiithout closing down immediately.
