printer / scanner conflict

Postby rdocksey » Sun Feb 10, 2013 4:27 am

I have an Epson TX720 (Artisan 720) printer and plustek 120 film scanner. unfortunately when I install the printer driver silverfast (8.0.1r20) can no longer find my scanner on startup. I'm in the unfortunate situation of being unable to scan and print from the same computer. I experience the exact same problem with my other scanner (plustek 820Ai) - although in this case I can work around as v**s**n does not suffer from this problem (which leads me to believe that it's not the fault of the epson printer driver).

Can you please advise how to resolve? It's too onerous to remove the printer device, scan, reinstall the printer drive and then print...

There is probably a driver conflict in the device handler.
Unfortunately this is quite erratic.
Please disable (not uninstall) the scanner component of your multi function printer in the device manager.
the printing capability should not be influenced by this.

kind regards,

Hi - ok, the multi-function printer device has three device functions off the Hardware properties tab: System devices; WSD Print Device and WSD Scan Device. If I disable only the scan device then I can print and Silverfast finds my scanner on startup so this is an improvement, thanks.

I would still be interested in finding a solution which would allow me to use all the functions of my printer though - open to suggestions...!

thanks,
Richard.

Dear Richard,

This issue is unfortunately caused by the Windows device handling.

Our developers are currently (once again) checking the Windows API if anything has changed which might help to solve this issue.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn
