Launcher Questions

Postby albqphotog » Mon Dec 22, 2003 6:52 pm

My Launcher stopped working at some point recently. Reading related posts, I looked for SilverFast *.8ba files and found none. I do have SF Launcher.exe and the latest program version that I installed yesterday.

The problem is like others? in that Launcher wants to be pointed to the plug in directory but evidently can?t find a file it is looking for.

By the way, has anyone ever objectively tested the speed of SF run through the PS import command as opposed to stand alone? Maybe there is no advantage to using the Launcher anyway? Also, how do I tell SF to open the newly scanned file in PS?

Thanks.

The advantage of using the launcher isn't necessarily for speed (although it may be faster) but in memory savings, since PS isn't running. When scanning or especially multi-pass scanning, it can make a huge difference.

As for your problem, if memory serves me, you need to point it to:

C:\Programs\Adobe\Photoshop CS (or 7)\Plug-ins\Import-Export

If that doesn't work, try ...Import-Export\Silverfast, although I'm pretty sure it's the first one. If I were at home, I could tell you...

Let me try to expand on my question:

The SF Launcher v2.0.03 opening dialog box says:

Plugin: <Choose Plugin folder...> [but there is nothing in the drop down menu]

Folder: [shows the correct folder]

Start button is greyed out

I hope this shows the problem clearly.

I have this same problem but can't find any other reference to it by searching the forum.

Does anyone have the solution to it?

Dear all.

From the "Plugin" popup, please select "<Choose Plugin folder...>" and then select the directory that Ian Anders proposed.

Eric.

I've got the same problem as albqphotog and bingibongi, and Eric's nor Ian's suggestions won't work. I just wanted to install the newest AI, version 6.1.0r8 (plugin/standalone) for the Epson Perfection 3200 Photo (Win XP). Before installation, the installer searches for "Twain_32.8BA" files, and finds files anywhere (even in my recycler folder), but NOT the proper "Twain_32.8BA" in my Photoshop-plugins-ImportExport folder.

I think this has something to do with the malfunctioning of the plugin. The installer gives me several options where Photoshop is located, and I choose the best out of these nonsensical options: the Lasersoft folder in the ProgramFiles folder. But the installer doesn't install the Epson.8ba file ANYWHERE, leaving me with a useless Launcher and an empty Photoshop Import folder.

Could anybody please help me/us?

Dear All,

an issue was found in the new SF installers for Epson scanners under Windows 2000 and XP (Inno Setup). A new release 6.1.0r8a of the installers will be available asap. Thanks for you comprehension.

Thomas
