IT8 Calibration using an IT8 slide with no barcode

Postby aprest » Wed Feb 04, 2009 12:49 am

I just bought and installed SilverFast Ai IT8 Studio Version 6.6 (Nikon LS-30/Coolscan III) to replace my SilverFast AI IT8 version 5.5. I have two older IT8 color slides that don't have a barcode. When I try to calibrate my scanner I get a message that the barcode can't be read. I have the C-Roes and Kodak reference data files loaded into the IT Reference Files Folder and click on the respective file when requested and it scans and again reports that the barcode can't be read. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to but a new IT8 35mm slide that has a barcode? Is there a work around?

Dear aprest,

There is a workaround, since the automatic IT8 calibration is active by default and your targets are not barcoded LaserSoft Imaging targets, you have to deactivate the Auto IT8 calibration option.

Please open the "Options" dialogue and click the "Auto" tab. Now deselect one option before the last one which let you perform the IT8 calibration as usual with targets other than LaserSoft Imaging IT8 targets.

I did as you said and the "IT8 Auto Calibration" option is no longer checked. I then tried to calibrate two different IT8 Targets using the data for them downloaded from SilverFast.
1) TX199910C.txt which is a C-ROES target
2) E3200005.txt which is a Kodak target

I launched the IT Calibration process an proceeded as follows:
1) "Please check the mask to be positioned...." which I did very carefully
2) I then clicked START
3) I get an error message that "The barcode of the target can't be read" and a box pops up that says "Select Reference File".
4) I select the reference file TX199910.c and open it. I see a message fly by that says "Calibration in Progress. Calibrating colors" and
5) I am then back to the "Please check the mask to be positioned...." I AM IN A DO LOOP AND CAN'T GET OUT!

This same thing happens over and over using either of the two targets. How do we fix this? I bought the latest version of SilverFast Studio so that I could do IT8 calibration and I can't it it to work. I am afraid to buy your targets with barcodes and have the same problem. This is very frustrating!

Hooray I got it working. The problem was that I was not doing a prescan before I did the IT8 Calibration. I also checked the Custom ICC Profile Name box under options so that I could have several IT8 profiles.

Thanks!
