Installing Silverfast Ai on an iMac - very basic question!

I have just bought a Plustek 7600i scanner with Silverfast Ai Studio. My computer is an iMac running OSX 10.4.11. I am the sole user and therefore the Administrator and have loaded various pieces of software over the past three years just using my password. However I am not sure if I can do this in the same way with Silverfast because of the sentence at the start of the written instructions that came with the scanner which says:-

"Please ensure that you are logged into as Root/Administrator"

I had not heard of "root" before so checked this out on the Apple's website and in my copy of David Pogue's Mac OSX The Missing Manual from which I learned that "root user" is disabled by default.

So my question is:- As I am the Administrator can I just go ahead and load the software or do I have to enable "root user" first?

Being the administrator does not necessarily mean "root user active". But yes, you can install the software, Serializing the software might be a different story, although it generally works well in admin mode, sometimes writing the serialization might be complicated. In such case you might want to activate the root user, restart the computer and try again the serialization.
