I have an Epson 4870 and when I try to start Silverfast (6.4.2r9) I get an error. This isn't really an install problem but I thought it fit best here.
Here are the particulars of the error:

===============================
This happens whenever I try to start Silverfast. Epson scan works fine. It doesn't matter if I'm connected via USB or Firewire, I've tried both.
The weird thing is that this happened before. After many troubleshooting steps I could only conclude that the motherboard had somehow gotten fried in a specific way that it broke Silverfast. I changed motherboards, and everything was fine again.
Now it's back. My other Firewire and USB devices work just fine. I have Firewire hard drives and USB printers that function normally.
For my previous troubleshooting (old motherboard) I tried many, many things. Removing all other USB and Firewire devices. Reinstalling Silverfast and Epson drivers. I even went as far as formatting the main hard drive and reinstalling everything. Nothing worked. Only swapping out the motherboard helped.
So what am I missing? Why is this happening again? I know you probably won't have an answer for that right now, but what could I do to troubleshoot?
I have 5 image files from the detailed XP Error report that I can upload if someone wants to look at them. I am running Windows XP SP2. I have another firewire card that I could throw in to see if that gets it going, but I don't want this problem to fry that card too.
Any ideas? I'm open for suggestions.

For a little more information, it crashes CS2 with the following error when I do File - Import - Silverfast (Epson) in CS2:
Appname: photoshop.exe
AppVer 9.0.0.0
ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset: 09d67740
Doing the same with the Epson scanning software choice worked fine.
I'm currently hooked up via USB.
Any ideas why only Silverfast is affected by this and not the Epson Scan software?

Even more info....
On the original motherboard the USB2 and Firewire ports were on the motherboard.
On my new motherboard it only has USB2 on the motherboard. I added a card with Firewire and USB2. The scanner was on the motherboard USB2 port when it died. Hooking it up to the USB2 or the Firewire on the additional card did not help. Same error.
I just tried swapping in a different Firewire only card and it didn't help.
I put the Firewire/USB2 card back in using a different motherboard slot. When I plugged in the scanner to the USB2 port on the card and turned the scanner on it asked to reinstall the drivers, which it did. But it did not help.

The problem has been solved!!!!! I emailed Silverfast support and one of the techs (don't know who) asked for more info. I told them I had a multi-function printer/fax/scanner on the system. They suggested it might be causing the problem.
I unplugged the printer and that removed the mf scanner from my list of scanners and Silverfast started up just fine. I have now disabled the scanner in the multi-function printer through Windows Device Manager as it's not needed and Silverfast works properly.
YEAH!

ScottChytil,
Glad to hear that your problem is resolved!
This is exactly why I was pointing you to the log. I had a similar situation and it showed up in the SilverFast log file. I solved the problem in the same way you did by only installing the print driver for my multi-function device.
