6.4.2r2b Installation Trouble (Ugh!)

Sent a request to tech support on this issue, but have yet to receive a reply. In the meantime, I'm stopped dead in my tracks so thought I would try posting to this forum in hopes someone out there has experienced this issue and has a resolution.

I had SilverFast 6.0.1r16 installed and it was working without issue. The istallation was from the CD that came with scanner - the scanner is an Epson 3200 and I'm running Windows XP SP2 and am up-to-date on all patches.

A few days ago I downloaded and installed the 6.4.2r2b update.

Now, SilverFast will not start. The software crashes on startup during the second initialization process (after device is located).

I installed 2.0.7 launcher - but that didn't make any difference.
On Epson's website I found an obcure technote relating to SilverFast SE and missing photoshop .dll (plugin.dll) - so I copied this .dll to the system32 folder as per technote instructions. However, this didn't resolve the problem of SE crashing.

Is this a buggy update or what's the scoop??

I will probably need to take a look at your lofile as well. Please also let me know if you have other scanners or a webcam connected to your computer.
