Strange colors in thumbnails

Postby TomPro » Sat Dec 03, 2005 6:48 pm

Hello,
I'm fairly new to SilverFast. Bought Canon 9950F two weeks ago, SF Ai Studio one week ago.

My intention is to scan old slides and prints as TIFF. Primary use will be slide shows on DVD or prints.

I struggle with the color management, which I find confusing. I get strange colors in the thumbnails in my management sw (BreezeBrowser Pro and IMatch) from the scans. Se http://tompro.homeip.net/correct.jpg and http://tompro.homeip.net/bad.jpg . My settings are http://tompro.homeip.net/Frame.jpg and http://tompro.homeip.net/CMS.jpg

If I bring the picture into Photoshop Elements and rewrites it back, the thumbnail will be correct. It is also correct if using CanoScan sw. I therefore think that it's either wrong configuration of SF or a bug in the SF sw.

Appreciate your help!

Thank you for pointing me to the article.

I have set my options like those described in the article. See http://tompro.homeip.net/CMS2.jpg . But I'm not able to set Internal -> Monitor to "Automatic". "Automatic" is greyed out in my option list. I have assigned an ICM profile for the monitor in Windows.

The problem still persists. I have done some more testing, and the thumbnail has wrong colors only if storing TIFF files. If I store as JPG, the thumbnail is fine. Turning color matching on or off does not influence this.

I forgot to say that the full size pictures are fine. Also that this is using scanning to file.

Perhaps this is a matter for LaserSoft support
Best Regards,

Tom

Hello Tom,

You might want to take a look at the color management documents located on this web site in addition to Ian's. I also recommend contacting technical support.

Here are the links for both.

Lack of response from support

Postby TomPro » Fri Dec 16, 2005 10:28 am

I sent this problem to support on 5.December, and got a confirmation with a ticket nr 2005120505783, stating that support would look into this and that all questions are handled individually.

The day after I sent an example picture with an incorrect thumbnail, http://tompro.homeip.net/Test-tif.tif . The picture looks fine when opened, but if loaded into an application that uses the thumbnail, like IMatch or Breezebrowser Pro, it looks like the colors are the complementary colors (a negative?) instead.

Since then, it has been quiet. I would have expected some sort of response by now. I would like to know if it will be fixed in the next release, a patch, or whatever. I wonder if this problem is specific to Canon 9950 scanner software version, or if it's a version independant problem.

I am about to start my scanning project of some thousand slides, and I intend to scan to file. But I cannot start until this is fixed, because loading all pictures in Photoshop and write them back agin is an uneccessary step that will cost extra time and effort.

Could someone, preferably a moderator, give an estimate of how long time it usually takes to get fixes for problems like this?

Appreciating your help.
Best Regards,

Tom

Still no answer, more than a month after the problem was accepted by support.

I find it disappointing that support does not react, and that no one from Lasersoft responds to my post of 16.December.
Best Regards,

Tom
