Scanning film that was exposed over the edges

Postby holgaguy » Tue Mar 24, 2009 11:52 am

Hi everyone,

I modded my Holga to take pictures on 135 film. These are exposed over the edges, so part of the image is between the punchholes in the borders. If I create a frame in SilverFast without selecting the borders,I get perfect results. As soon as I extend the frame to include the borders with the punchholes, the pictures become overexposed and ugly.

So, is there a way to preserve the settings that are automatically detected when selecting a frame without punchholes, and then applying them to the whole frame (with punchholes)?

Cheers

Is this really so hard? It would just mean taking the settings that Silverfast detected for the smaller frame and applying them to the larger frame. I just don't know how to do this, but it would be a shame if this is not possible.

Dear Holgaguy,

It is not that hard nor impossible.

Please check out the following video which explains how to proceed in cases like this or also if you are interested in doing contact sheets.

I am sure this is helpful enough.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Am I right to assume that this option is not available in the Canon version of Silverfast? Which version would I have to purchase to use this function?

Dear holgaguy,

The NegaFix option should be present in the canon version, however that might be SilverFast SE which has a limited version of many tools, in that case the NegaFix dialogue should look a bit different but you should be able to do this with that version as well.
