Problems Scanning in 48 bit HDR mode

Postby pflower » Sun Oct 07, 2007 6:50 pm

Normally I scan in 48bit color on my Polaroid Sprintscan 120. However I have been reading that scanning (I am using v6.) in 48bit HDR mode might be better. However trying this I end up with files that open in PS CS3 in 16bit but extremely dark - i.e no midtones and virtually no highlights.

Is 48 bit HDR only suitable if one uses Silverfast HDR or can it be used with Photoshop. If so what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

you are not doing anything wrong per say - there is no gamma compensation in the raw file that SF is producing. Since i work mostly in HDR, i don't think this will work, but it won't hurt either - try setting gamma = at least 1.8- 2.3 and checking the "for HDR " box. Open in PS and see if that helps. Otherwise, apply a master curve adjustment layer in PS to bring up the midtones, etc so you can see the image.
