Preview Scans Look Better Than Final Output Scan

Postby gsmlord » Wed Jul 16, 2008 5:19 pm

I've just purchased a Epson Expression 1680 scanner so I thought I would install a demo copy of Silverfast to try before making a decision.

My problem is the final scan output quality, the colour reproduction is nowhere near the quality of the preview window, can anyone explain why?

Dear gsmlord,

There might be many different causes for the difference in quality between preview and endscan. The first thing you should know, is that the preview is a quick scan with very low difinition, in this terms the end scan has in fact a far superior quality than the preview.
Other reason for the quality difference might be the settings you use, for the endscan.

Your post is very subjective and is difficult to judge if you do not provide us with some examples (e.g. screenshots of silverfast with the preview window and the end scan) and a description of what you did in SilverFast as well as the kind of material you are scanning...

Thanks for your cooperation

Have a nice day

Hello,

I would think I have quite a similar problem with a Plustek 7300, for example I just scan without specific settings, except the type of film of course, at 3200dpi or even more and there is absolutely no difference in quality between the Prescan and the scan, I don't think it's normal, what could be the cause of that?

Thanks.

Dear embar_go

It is possible to make a high quality pre-scan which would look very similar to the end-scan. Again, as I said to gsmlord, it is a very subjective topic and hard to tell what the difference in terms of quality could be, it must be judged using concrete examples.

You can provide us with some pictures perhaps to try to understand your point
